Design Engineer

Seeking an Addition to our Innovative Team in Heavy Equipment Designing

About the Position: As a Design Engineer for PHIL, you will be creating the initial designs for the off-highway haul truck accessories that we manufacture. You will be developing core ideas for customized products based on extensive customer consultation and time spent discussing their equipment specifications, performance expectations, materials to be hauled, etc. This role will work in collaboration with our associates in our Engineering and Production departments and take the lead in creating the designs and prints to meet those customer specifications. As a Design Engineer, you may also facilitate modifications to existing designs or products to improve performance or integrate new technology. Experience Required:

  • 1+ years' experience in a similar role designing
  • 4-year engineering degree (Mechanical, Agricultural, or similar)
  • Experience with CAD systems, Autodesk Inventor or similar
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite applications
  • E. license or interest and ability to pursue licensing is a plus


  • Consult with internal team members and directly with customers to identify customer equipment needs, applications, and performance expectations
  • Customize PHIL product offerings for specific customer problems and applications
  • Examine previous designs and feedback for opportunities of improvement
  • Create innovative design solutions for new customer challenges
  • Create various drawings and documents, e.g. sales proposals, product designs, assembly prints, bill of materials, and shipping drawings
  • Collaborate with other Engineering team members to assist on group projects and act as a sounding board for others' projects, reviews others' work
  • Collaborate with Production team members to design products that are feasible and user-friendly
  • Uses technology to perform load profile assessments and capture 3D images via terrestrial laser scanning
  • Assist with special projects, including research and development, documentation and applications for intellectual property patents, development of department standards, and process documentation
  • Occasionally travel (5-15%) to attend trade shows, training seminars, customer visits, and assist with measuring, installing, diagnosing, and repairing product in the field
  • Accurately clock to jobs for cost accounting data to assist in customer pricing
  • Assist with the training and development of other team members and development of training tools
